Lights make the season. Nothing says, “The Holidays are here!” like twinkling lights reflecting off of sparkling tinsel. There is something about white lights on a house, or the 8 candles in a window, that are like a beacon of holiday spirit in the night. Like a lighthouse, these decorations beckon us home, when the nights are dark and the paths are treacherous with ice and snow.
It is as if we place these lights up on the tree or rimming our windows and framing of our houses to help guide our loved ones home to us for the holiday. As if each little light, twinkles its heart out to lead you home.
Those lights seem to tell you that inside this home, all covered in glittering luminaries, there is a warm drink, gifts wrapped with care, a tree with boughs full of decorations, laughter and love, just waiting for you; won’t you come inside?
This time of year the days are full and you may be hosting multitudes for the holidays. So if you are looking for a quick little craft to pass the time and bring some light to your life this holiday season, I have the perfect project for you. You only need some water, candles, freezing temperatures, and a little time. This one would be perfect for little ones, to help light the way for Santa and his eight reindeer to your home. Also a great craft for your New Year’s Eve Party to light the way to the festivities!
You will need:
- Small bowls, any size or mixed sizes will do
- Votive candles in metal or plastic
- Water
- A freezer
To Do:
- Fill bowls with water
- Float votive candles in water
- Place in freezer until solid
- Remove and dip bowls in hot water to remove ice from bowls
- Place outside
- Light and enjoy
May these simple ice candles light up your home and heart this holiday season.
