The Upycled Rustic Painted Stool

The Upycled Painted Stool

Hello! It is Lindsay from My Creative Days back to share a small DIY project with you!

This project came to be because of a few chores my kids have around the house. My kids are at the age that they can do things like bring up the laundry, put away their laundry and take out the garbage. But, the laundry part has been a point of contention the last few months.

See, my daughter can’t reach the rod in her closet to get her clothes down or to hang them up. Every laundry day, her big brother wonders why he has to hang his clothes up if his sister doesn’t. He knows why, but it still needs to be brought up every time laundry day rolls around.

Thanks to the painted stool, our laundry day contention has been resolved!

I scored this old, wood stool at a yard sale. It is a very sturdy stool so I didn’t have to worry about my daughter using it in her room.

It is also great because it has a “handle” on it so she can easily move it around as she needs.

When I asked my daughter how she would like me to make over the stool for her room, she said, “I would love it pink with some designs”. Easy enough.

I painted the entire stool pink. Then, I used my Cricut to cut out the word “reach”. I traced the letters in the stool and painted them brown to match the colors in her room (you can see her room in our home tour here).

Next, to add some “designs”, I taped some stripes and painted them white.

I also added three brown polka dots.

Since this was an old stool, I wanted to give it the patina of being old. I used the sander to rough it up a little bit.

Now, it looks like it belongs in our home.

This stool has been the perfect addition to my daughter’s room. She now has the freedom to pick out her clothes in the morning and she also has the new chore of hanging her clothes up on laundry day! YAY!

(That last part she is not so excited about………………….. but her brother is.)
