Skull & Crossbones Glitter Cutout Decoration

Hello My Crafty Spot readers! It’s Erin back posting today from The Blue Eyed Dove. I really, really enjoy everything about the month of October, but one of my favorite things about this month would have to be Halloween. Today I’m sharing a simple craft I made to display in my home décor for Halloween.

Easy Halloween Craft

While browsing around Michael’s one day I ran across several Halloween-themed wooden cut-outs.

I decided to go with the bone & skull cut-out, because I knew it wouldn’t take much to spruce it up. Now the question was…would I use fabric or scrapbook paper to cover it? To save myself a trip to the fabric store I went with scrapbook paper. Plus, Michael’s had a great selection of glittery paper so it made my decision even easier. And I prefer pretty Halloween décor anyways…what is prettier than purple glitter!? 🙂

Here are the supplies I used:

  • Skull & Bones Wooden Cut-Out
  • Scrapbook Paper or Fabric
  • Rhinestones
  • Paint
  • Mod Podge
  • Painting Sponge
  • Scissors

Directions:

1. Trace your wooden cut-out pattern.

2. Cut out the pattern.

3. Paint the cut-out. (I painted both sides black just in case any of the wooden portions where visible. I also made sure to paint all of the edges.)

4. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the cut-out, then place your scrapbook paper (or fabric) on top. Make sure to smooth out any air bubbles.

5. Apply another thin layer of Mod Podge on top of your scrapbook paper (or fabric) to seal. Allow to dry.

6. Lastly add the rhinestones around the eyes of the skull. The rhinestones I used were actually stickers and went on super easy.  This isn’t necessary if you like the cut-out as is…but rhinestones make everything prettier…even on a skull 🙂

And that’s it!

An easy {and pretty} Halloween project!

Who says skulls & bones can’t be turned into something fancy anyways!?!

Have a great day!
