Santa Belly Paper Flower Ornaments DIY

Hey all! It’s Pauline from Club Chica Circle, and I’m so happy to be back sharing another craft idea this month. I don’t know about you, but our Holiday crafting is in full swing!

HO HO HO! Have you been good this year? No matter, you can be really good with this easy Holiday craft idea.

Santa Belly Paper Flower Holiday Craft Idea

This is such a great family or classroom craft idea too. It starts with a cool paper flower technique transformed into a Santa belly. Last month I made these cute paper flower turkeys for fun mason jar gift ideas using this same technique.

This is what I used to make these paper flower ornaments:

  • Holiday red patterned scrapbook paper
  • Gold glitter self-adhesive foam
  • Black self-adhesive foam
  • Wood circle (at least 2″)
  • Baker’s twine
  • XACTO knife or scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Clear tape

First, cut and gather all of your supplies.

  • Cut one 12″ length of Baker’s twine or ribbon
  • Cut on rectangle piece of black foam about 4 1/4″ x 5/8″
  • Cut a gold glitter foam square about 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″ with 1/2″ square cut out of the middle
  • One 2″ wood circle
  • Two strips of red patterned scrapbook paper 2″ x 12″

Start by attaching the two strips together, end to end with a piece of tape. Then accordion fold the long paper strip with 1/2″ folds.

When the whole long paper strip is folded, attach the two outer ends together with another piece of tape to create a circle.

Then, this is when the paper flower magic happens.

Use both hands to pinch the outside of your folded paper circle and press down into the center to create the perfect flower shape. You may want to practice a couple of times until you get the hang of how to turn it into a flower shape because you will need to act fast for the next step.

Now you need to create the hanger and attach the wood circle to hold it together. Squirt some hot glue onto the center of your wood circle, add the twine or ribbon in the center in a loop. Then turn the paper flower over, and pinch together again. With both hands holding the paper flower, press into the center of the hot glue on top of the wood circle. Hold in place until the glue sets.

Turn the paper flower over again, and add the self-adhesive black “belt” and “buckle” on the front.

Voila! Your paper flower is now a cute and festive Santa belly ornament ready to hang on a tree.

This would also make a great bow topper for a present! Enjoy!
