Hello! It’s Katie from View From The Fridge back again, and today I’m sharing a fun and easy way to give your home some Halloween glam this month! This quick and easy ‘BOO’ Banner is just a bit rustic with the old book pages with a touch of glam in the metallics. The perfect twist to the traditional Halloween orange and black.
Earlier this week, I shared my Book Page Pumpkins that I made with books that our dog, Molly, chewed up. Notice I did not say ‘puppy’. She’s 7 and from time to time you’d swear she was still a puppy. When she’s in a mood, she’ll paw the books off out of our book shelf and chew ’em up. Since I wrote that pumpkin post on Monday another book bit the dust …
I suppose you could still attempt to read this one as most of the words on the pages are still intact, but it no longer sits on a shelf, opens correctly, or stays together. Molly really wanted me to make some more book page crafts, apparently.
At least some of the pages (well, only three) were put to good use for some Halloween decorating.
Here are the other supplies you’ll need for the banner:
- Book Pages
- Wood Bunting/Banner pieces. I got mine from Michael’s, but you could totally just make some out of cardboard or even thick cardstock.
- Black Adhesive Letters. These came from Target, but you could buy any scrapbook letters, a stencil, or just free hand some on with a Sharpie.
- Metallic yarn or ribbon
- Turquoise vase filler ‘balls’ (also from Michael’s)
- Cardboard leaves. Again, these came from Michael’s (on clearance last year), but you could use anything here. Cardboard, Faux silk leaves, real leaves(?) …
- And not pictured … Hot glue gun and Copper Spray paint (or gold, bronze, etc)
And here’s how to assemble your banner:
- Trace the shape of your cardboard/wood/cardstock piece onto the book page:
- Cut out the shape, but cut about 1/2″ inside your lines so some of the cardboard piece will show behind the book page
- Spray paint your wood/cardboard/cardstock pieces and 4 faux leaves with copper spray paint and let dry.
- Add your letters:
- Grab a needle and thread your yarn through the eye:
- Using the needle, thread the banner together as shown:
- Hot glue on your embellishments (the turquoise vase filler balls, in my case) to the leaves.
That’s it!
Hang and admire!
And, if you’re wanting more book page project ideas (or just want to see the culprit behind all of this (Ms. Molly)), you can check out my lovely book page pumpkins that I made earlier this week HERE:
Thanks for having me today! I’ll be back next month, but in the meantime, I’d love for you to stop over and say hello at View From The Fridge!
