You Complete Me {LOVE} Mugs

You Complete Me Love Mugs

Hello everyone!  I’m thrilled to be here today to share my latest project … a set of ‘you complete me’ LOVE mugs.  This set would be a great gift for someone special OR for that special couple.  With Valentine’s Day and wedding season just around the corner … you may just want to make a couple sets!

I love a good homemade gift … and I love a good thrift store find.  This project just happens to involve both!  When I spotted these white Crate and Barrel mugs at Goodwill the other week, I knew I would find a way to put them to good use!    At $0.99, I really couldn’t go wrong … right?!?!

LOVE THIS COMBO … CRATE AND BARREL WITH GOODWILL $0.99 STICKERS ON TOP!

If your Goodwill doesn’t happen to have these beauties, Ikea and Target are also great sources of inexpensive plain white mugs.  Besides the mugs, you’ll need:

  • Adhesive letter stencils.  You could use a variety of stencils here (purchased letter stencils, stencils made with a Silhouette or Cricut and adhesive vinyl, etc).  I ended up using letter stickers from Target (sold in the poster aisle).  Instead of using the letters themselves (as I’m sure most people use these for, I used the outsides to form the stencil).
  • Embossing powder in two colors
  • White / clear stamp pad
  • Heat gun

Star Wars Wall Art DIY

Star Wars Wall ArtHi everyone!  Katie here, from Addicted 2 DIY.  Today I’m so excited to share with you my latest project for my 5 year old’s bedroom.  He’s been begging me to decorate his room forever, but kept changing his mind on an actual theme.  He finally settled on Star Wars, so I’ve been busy working away and giving his room a little personality.  His walls were so bare, so I knew I wanted to figure out something to hang on them.  I thought some fun signs made of canvas and vinyl would be perfect!

Here’s what I used for this project:

  • 4 – 16×20″ canvases (I got a 5 pack on sale at Michael’s for $10)
  • Americana Multi-Surface paint in Black Tie
  • Americana Multi-Surface paint in Coffee Bean
  • Americana Acrylic Paint in Houser Light Green
  • Americana Acrylic Paint in True Blue
  • 2 – 12×24″ sheets white vinyl
  • 1 – 12×24″ sheet signal yellow vinyl
  • 1 12×24″ sheet nut brown vinyl
  • Vinyl transfer paper
  • Mod Podge Matte
  • 1″ foam paint brushes

I started by painting the canvases one at a time.  While that particular color would dry, I would cut out the saying or quote for that canvas.

DIY Anthropologie-Inspired Amour Pillow

Who doesn’t love Anthropologie? I saw these Anthropologie pillows the other day and fell in love with the concept of the graphic print on the pillows, almost like framed art. I wasn’t totally in love with the print though, I mean, not $98 in love with the art if you know what I mean.  So, I thought it’d be a great opportunity to dust off the sketch pad and see what I could come up with. Um, I’m kinda obsessed.

The real beauty of this is that ANYONE can do it! You might have to find your image online, but creating it is as easy as tracing letters in kindergarten, and saving $90 isn’t too awful either.

So, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Cream-colored canvas or duckcloth **
  • A fabric marker (I recommend Stained by Sharpie)
  • Black piping – 2 yards
  • A coordinating zipper

**I needed 2/3 of a yard for 20×20 pillow

Start by finding your image and resizing it to fit your pillow. This can be a little tricky, but you can do it really affordably at kinkos, staples, or any big office supply store. I just cropped mine into four different sections and printed it at home, taping the different pieces together.

Next, cut out your canvas for your pillow case. My pillow insert was 20×20 and I cut my fabric to 21×21, next time I’d probably cut it to 20.5×20.5 to make it fit a little snugger.

When you have your pillow case pieces cut out, tape your art to the back of one of the pieces, making an effort to make it level and aligned.
