Nautical Embellished Picture Frame | View From The Fridge for My Crafty Spot

Yay!  It’s May which just so happens to be my all time favorite month of the year!  For several reasons I love this month, but one of them is that it means summer, boating, lakes, and warmer weather are just around the corner (I’m up here in Minnesota and we can have some brutal winters).

To celebrate the fact that boating season will soon be upon us, today I’m sharing a quick and easy way to take a regular picture frame and add some nautical, summer inspired flair to it.

Simple, cute … and so easy!  Adds a little interest to a plain frame, huh?

SUPPLIES

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Picture Frame (I found this one at Home Goods just recently)
  • Rope (I just purchased this at Michael’s for 50% off, but you could also just pick up rope at your local hardware store).
  • Dock Cleat with screws to fit (also sometimes called a marine cleat or boat cleat and can also be found at a hardware store).
  • Staple Gun & staples

PROCESS

And here are the simple steps:

  1. Cut four pieces of rope long enough to reach from the top of your frame to the bottom and around to the back.Nautical Embellished Picture Frame | View From The Fridge for My Crafty Spot
  2. Wrap each piece of rope around frame as shown:Nautical Embellished Picture Frame | View From The Fridge for My Crafty Spot
  3. Secure each piece of rope at the top and bottom of the back of your frame with a staple: Nautical Embellished Picture Frame | View From The Fridge for My Crafty Spot
  4. Next, cut another length of rope and loop it through the dock cleat as shown (or however you tie your knots): Nautical Embellished Picture Frame | View From The Fridge for My Crafty Spot
  5. Take each end and secure onto the top back corners of your frame: Nautical Embellished Picture Frame | View From The Fridge for My Crafty Spot
  6. Secure to the wall with your screws into the dock cleat and add a picture!  That’s it! Nautical Embellished Picture Frame | View From The Fridge for My Crafty Spot

It looks like summer …. and that makes me very happy!  Can you see me over here smiling??

I love the detail of the boat/dock/marine cleat!  So much more interesting than just a nail, right?!?

This would also be an adorable gift for someone with a cabin, someone with a beach home, or someone who is just lucky enough to live on the water!

She loves to craft, decorate, dream up projects for her home, and she’s learning to love to cook (though not there quite yet). She started View From The Fridge in the fall of 2013. This just happened to correspond to when they purchased their current home. She wanted a place to share their updates, projects, lessons learned, and all her DIY crafts. Her husband is a Financial Advisor, therefore all of their projects are always on a budget (which is usually a lot less than she would prefer … but she loves a challenge). Katie also enjoys coffee, a good glass of wine or beer (when she's not expecting!), running, and anything outside. She lives in Minnesota and takes full advantage of the wonderful (but short) summer season outside with her family.

  1. Oh my gosh, that is ADORABLE. I have a beach-themed master bathroom and that would be perfect in there!!!! I must make this! I have an empty spot on the wall for it!
