DIY Patriotic Frame and Printable

DIY Patriotic Frame and Printable

Hey everyone!  I hope you are all enjoying your summer!  We just got back from our summer vacation and I’m already missing the cooler weather and the beach.  That being said, I’m still happy to be home and getting back to a normal routine, including creating new projects like this DIY Patriotic Frame and Printable.

This project was so easy to create and I had everything but the frame on hand, so it was cheap too!

I purchased this 8×10 wooden frame from Michael’s and, using my 40% off coupon, it only cost me around $5.

I took the backing off of the frame and painted it with Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Legacy and then brushed on a coat of Americana Decor Soft-Touch Varnish.

I made my own pinwheels with some patriotic scrapbook paper that I’ve had for years.  They are really simple to make.  I cut two squares of paper out, one at 5″ and one at 3″.  You can see the faint pencil line where I took a ruler and drew lines to mark the center of my squares.  I then took a craft knife and, starting about 1/4″ from the center, cut the paper where I had marked my pencil lines.

Once my paper was cut, I took my weeding tool and poked holes in the center as well as each corner of the square.

I then folded in my corners, lined up my holes, and secured my pinwheel with a brad.  I did this with the 3″ piece as well and then stacked it on top of the larger pinwheel and secured them together with one brad.

The look still felt a little incomplete, so I grabbed my stash of chipboard shapes and found a little star in the perfect shade of blue.

I glued it to the frame with hot glue and then designed my printable.  Just click on the picture below to download your own printable image.

I put it on my entry console table underneath my Pottery Barn inspired stars and stripes banner.  You can find the tutorial for that here.  I am loving this whole look and I almost want to keep it up year round!
