DIY Brush Stroke Coffee Mugs

Did you realize there are only 10 shopping days until Christmas? If you still have a lot of shopping to do, skip the mall and make your friends and family DIY brush stroke coffee mugs. This project is fun, easy and doesn’t require a ton of time. When your mugs are complete, wrap them up with the recipient’s favorite coffee, tea or hot cocoa. It’s a gift they will treasure for a long time!

Before you begin painting your mug, wipe the surface of the mug with rubbing alcohol to remove any dirt or finger prints from the surface.

To paint the brush strokes on the mug, I recommend painting a few strokes of one color and then switching to a different color. Continue to paint until all of the white space is covered by paint. I would recommend leaving a strip of white around the top of the mug since the paint is not food safe.

Once you have finished painting the mugs, DecoArt recommends you wait 4 days and then bake the mugs for a more durable, dishwasher safe finish. After baking for 30 minutes, turn the oven off and let the mug cool in the oven. Your gift will be complete and ready to give to a friend or family member!
