Star Wars Wall Art DIY

Star Wars Wall ArtHi everyone!  Katie here, from Addicted 2 DIY.  Today I’m so excited to share with you my latest project for my 5 year old’s bedroom.  He’s been begging me to decorate his room forever, but kept changing his mind on an actual theme.  He finally settled on Star Wars, so I’ve been busy working away and giving his room a little personality.  His walls were so bare, so I knew I wanted to figure out something to hang on them.  I thought some fun signs made of canvas and vinyl would be perfect!

Here’s what I used for this project:

  • 4 – 16×20″ canvases (I got a 5 pack on sale at Michael’s for $10)
  • Americana Multi-Surface paint in Black Tie
  • Americana Multi-Surface paint in Coffee Bean
  • Americana Acrylic Paint in Houser Light Green
  • Americana Acrylic Paint in True Blue
  • 2 – 12×24″ sheets white vinyl
  • 1 – 12×24″ sheet signal yellow vinyl
  • 1 12×24″ sheet nut brown vinyl
  • Vinyl transfer paper
  • Mod Podge Matte
  • 1″ foam paint brushes

I started by painting the canvases one at a time.  While that particular color would dry, I would cut out the saying or quote for that canvas.

DIY Patriotic Frame and Printable

DIY Patriotic Frame and Printable

Hey everyone!  I hope you are all enjoying your summer!  We just got back from our summer vacation and I’m already missing the cooler weather and the beach.  That being said, I’m still happy to be home and getting back to a normal routine, including creating new projects like this DIY Patriotic Frame and Printable.

This project was so easy to create and I had everything but the frame on hand, so it was cheap too!

I purchased this 8×10 wooden frame from Michael’s and, using my 40% off coupon, it only cost me around $5.

I took the backing off of the frame and painted it with Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Legacy and then brushed on a coat of Americana Decor Soft-Touch Varnish.

I made my own pinwheels with some patriotic scrapbook paper that I’ve had for years.  They are really simple to make.  I cut two squares of paper out, one at 5″ and one at 3″.  You can see the faint pencil line where I took a ruler and drew lines to mark the center of my squares.  I then took a craft knife and, starting about 1/4″ from the center, cut the paper where I had marked my pencil lines.

Ballard-Inspired Leather Studded Monogram

Ballard-Inspired-Leather-Studded-Monogram 2

Happy Friday everyone!  It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that it’s already Friday.  Not only that, the school year is almost over!  Here, we’re in a race to landscape our back yard before it gets too hot outside.  I’m also working on adding some fun additions to the inside of the house.  Including this leather studded monogram.

I was originally inspired to create this after finding this awesome leather studded typesetter plaque.  The price of this plaque is $149.  That’s a bit outside of my decorating budget, so I challenged myself to come up with my own version.

I had some remnants of leather left over from another project, so all I had to buy was the letter and some thumbtacks.  I wanted to find a letter close to the same font as the Ballard version, but those letters at JoAnn’s were 23″ tall!  I felt like that would be a little big for this project, so I bought a 13″ letter instead.  You can purchase leather at JoAnn’s as well.  You wouldn’t need very much at all for this project.  Maybe 1/4 of a yard.

I started by tracing my letter on the wrong side of the leather and then added 1 1/2″ around the entire tracing.  I cut it out with my rotary cutter and scissors.  If you’d rather not wrap the leather around the edges of the letter, you can always cut the leather the exact size of your letter of choice and then paint the sides a similar color to your leather.

Grown Up Easter Basket

Grown Up Easter Basket

Hey everyone!  It’s Katie again from Addicted 2 DIY.  Easter is just a week away and in the spirit of that, I wanted to share with you this Grown Up Easter Basket tutorial.  Easter baskets are traditionally for the kids, but there’s no reason why the grown ups can’t enjoy an Easter basket too.  Since my family always gets together for brunch on Easter Sunday, and because I love mimosas, I thought it would be fun to create this grown up version to bring along with me.

I originally planned to make my own basket using 5 gallon paint sticks, but there is apparently some sort of “controversy” involving paint sticks at Home Depot, and their paint pro apologetically told me they were all out.  I then realized I had to start from scratch with my idea.  Thankfully, I also happened to be on one of my weekly trips to Michaels and scored an awesome crate that was the perfect size!

Along with the crate, I also picked up some colored straw, and one of their super cute laser cut wood plaques.  I’ve been eyeing their laser cut wood products for a while and was so excited to finally find a way to use one!  I picked up some 1/4″ sisal rope from Home Depot for my “basket” handles and got started.

The wood plaque got two coats of chalkboard paint so I could write a happy little message on the front of my basket.
